20140725-DSC_9757 L to R: Justin, me, our awesome rock climber/bread baker host and Sekiji, a Japanese bike tourer who has been traveling the world for the past 5 years. Our host rode his bike across China. During his bike tour, he was invited into people’s homes and commonly offered chicken legs. Unable to communicate that he was vegetarian, people assumed he was too good for their food when he did not accept it. When he met someone who could speak English, explained his dilemma and was handed back a card with the words “I am Buddhist” written in Chinese. From then on he showed the card upon entering someone's home and it was assumed he didn’t eat meat. The night we were invited into his home, he prepared a vegan dinner for us.

*Mirko, thank you for opening up your beautiful home. Visit us in the states and we'll cook a vegan meal for you any time!
